Fleetwood Mac es sin duda una de las bandas de más éxito en la década de los 70. Su estilo evolucionó desde el blues tradicional, hacia un pop/rock suave y elegante. La voz y composiciones de Stevie Nicks y Lindsay Buckingham eran el tándem perfecto en trabajos como Rumours. Grammy al mejor álbum del año y uno de los más vendidos de todos los tiempos. En él se reflejan las tensiones personales que existían dentro del grupo y un sonido más comercial sin renunciar a la calidad en las composiciones. La emoción y tristeza del country o el blues, el ritmo del rock y la sensibilidad en las baladas formaban parte de este disco en temas como "Don't Stop", "Go Your Own Way", "You Make Loving Fun" o "Dreams", número uno en las listas de Billboard durante seis meses y que me permito invitaros a escuchar.

De nuevo tenemos a los AC-DC cargados de esa energía vital y explosiva como muy pocos saben canalizar.
Fue hace unos meses cuando rendíamos nuestro pequeño homenaje a esta banda australiana a traves de unos de sus temas -Highway To Hell- que les aupó a lo más alto del rock más potente. Ahora en este 2010 retornan a través de la películaIron Man 2, serán 15 canciones clásicas seleccionadas entre lo mejor de los diez álbumes de su larga carrera entre 1976 y 2008. El video presentación es "Shoot to Thrill", rodado en directo, era diciembre de 2009 en Buenos Aires (Argentina), durante la gira Black Ice Tour, pertenecía a su álbum Back In Black y manifiesta a través de la música, la alta energía y excitación que el film pretende expresar.

Bob Marley era un músico y compositor nacido en Jamaica, conocido y respetado en todo el mundo, que difundió la música de su pais y en especial el reggae, una música que provenía de las capas más bajas del pueblo. 
Él quiso transportar a traves de su música, un mensaje de concordia y paz frente a la violencia irracional que purulaba por las calles de su pais. Una violencia que sufrió en sus propias carnes al ser tiroteado en el pecho, pero que no impidió que siguiera componiendo canciones comprometidas con la sociedad y el amor. Para ello contó con la colaboración de un grupo de músicos -The Wailers- en concordancia y comprometidos con una misma filosofía frente a la vida y la música. Canciones únicas como "No Woman No Cry","Could You Be Loved", "Redemption Song", "one love", "Is This Love"... asi hasta una extensa lista que se vió truncada en 1981 por culpa de un cáncer de pulmón y tumor cerebral. Era el final de la estrella de la música más famosa del tercer mundo, pero no de su legado musical, que ha seguido influyendo en las nuevas generaciones de músicos.

Otro británico consagrado y de éxito en la música no es otro que Mike Oldfield. Ansioso por experimentar e investigar sonidos capaces de plasmar la música que sonaba en el interior de su cabeza. Una explosión creativa que se vió reflejado en su obra cumbre, Tubular Bells (pulsar para ver). 
Pero canciones de estilo más convencional tambien le dieron la popularidad y un posicionamiento alto en las listas de venta. "Family Man", "To France" o "Moonlight Shadow". Canciones pop dificiles de olvidar que acompañadas algunas veces por la voz etérea y sensual de la escocesa Maggie Reilly, dulcificaban y serenaban las guitarras distorsionantes y penetrantes de Mike Olfield. Este último tema se dice que es un tributo a John Lennon tras su muerte asesinado, una bella canción, triste y nostálgica, que nos permite disfrutar, por un lado de la gran voz de Maggie, y por el otro la faceta creativa más comercial de Mike.

Pero fue en los 70 cuando sus actuaciones en directo con fuerte componente sexual la hizo alcanzar una reputación que la ha llevado a ser considerada "una de las más grandes intérpretes de todos los tiempos". Su continuación en los 80, ya en solitario, la aupó a los puestos más altos en ventas de disco y popularidad, convirtiéndose en todo un icono del rock. 
Ella no es otra que "la reina del Rock 'n' Roll" Tina Turner, poseedora de una poderosa voz rebosante de energía, al igual que de unas vigorosas y bien torneadas piernas que la han mantenido firme década tras década. No podemos negar que su fuerza y energía a la hora de interpretar en directo es su gran baza pero..., tampoco podemos dejar pasar por alto otras canciones de talante más templado como "Look Me In The Heart" perteneciente a su álbum Foreign affair, donde nos muestra de igual manera su fuerza interpretativa, convirtiéndola en un "todo terreno" de la música.

OMD: Maid of Orleans

Han pasado 14 años desde la disolución de uno de los grupos clave de la música electrónica. Hablamos de OMD (Orchestral Manoeuvres in The Dark), grupo británico que inició su andura a finales de los años 70, pero que crearon un camino a seguir en infinidad de estilos que se fueron desarrollando en décadas posteriores. La música Tecno-Pop, el New-Wave, sonidos simples que se aliñaban perfectamente con pulidas melodías pegadizas, envolventes orquestaciones y compactados arreglos vocales, encontrando ese hueco idílico entre lo vanguardista y lo comercial. En 1989 tuvieron la primera fisura con el abandono de uno de sus componentes, pero ellos continuaron hasta la disolución del grupo en 1986. Hoy en dia nos sorprenden con un retorno próximo con intenciones de publicar un nuevo disco y seguir ofreciendo innovación en la música electrónica..., dificil se me antoja, pero no se puede olvidar que ellos fueron unos maestros que crearon grandes canciones como "Enola Gay", "Souvenirs" o "Maid of Orleans", un tributo a Juana de Arco, pero sobre todo auténticos himnos avanzadillas de un -por aquel entonces- futuro que ha dejado una huella imborrable en la música.

The Doobie Brothers: Listen To The Music

Por las venas de la banda americana The Doobie Brothers, circula sangre caliente californiana y energía desenfrenada balanceándose entre el pop-rock, folk o country principalmente. Ellos inciaron su carrera en 1970, y esperamos la publicación para este mismo año de un nuevo disco, que quizás dará forma una vez más, a una nueva etapa de la banda.
Su dilatada existencia ha dado paso a diferentes ciclos, una inicial de estilo más country-rock, donde podemos incluir canciones como "Listen To The Music" o "Long Train Running". Otra en la que el soul o jazz tambien formaron parte de su repertorio, gracias a la incorporación de Michael McDonald y canciones como "What A Fool Believes". Para retornar más tarde de nuevo al country-rock e incluso a estilos hard rock, hip-hop y jazz, en su última publicación de estudio hace 10 años. Ahora sólo nos queda esperar y confiar en que su retorno con este nuevo trabajo, esté a la altura de lo que le corresponde, la de un grupo mítico.

The Manhattan Transfer: Soul Food To Go

Comenzaron actuando en clubs de jazz neoyorkinos, donde alcanzaron gran popularidad. Pero en realidad, The Manhattan Transfer aunan en su interior la calidad vocal de sus componentes, con el buen gusto en interpretaciones clásicas de jazz, soul, swing, samba o folk. 
Todo ello les ha permitido abarcar diversidad de audiencias, tanto en Estados Unidos, como en Europa, donde siempre han permanecido fieles a este cuarteto. Su maestría en el arte del vocalese, estilo que consiste en añadir letras a piezas instrumentales de jazz, les proporcionó el más alto grado de reconocimiento aspirando por su álbum Vocalese a 12 Grammys en 1985, todo un récord superado sólo por el Thriller de Michael Jackson. En su diverso océano musical nos podemos encontrar con temas como "Birdland", "Chanson d'Amour", "Twilight Zone/Twilight Tone", "Spice Of Life" o "Soul Food To Go", de su álbum -premiado con un Grammy- Brasil, sin olvidarnos de su mayor éxito en España, "Speak Up Mambo", más conocido aquí como "Cuéntame Que Te Pasó", todo un boom por aquel entonces, donde deja claro su diversidad musical y su reinvindicación de no ser catalogados y ser simplemente The Manhattan Transfer.

Phil Collins: (Love is like a) HeatWave

Con una fantástica etapa a través del grupo Genesis, y más tarde en solitario dentro de los años 80, Phil Collins regresa tras 5 años de sequía discográfica con un álbum de versiones de sus canciones favoritas a las que ha querido dar un toque muy personal. Su título es Going Back, y son en su mayoría canciones soul y un homenaje al legendario sello Motown.

Ha contado con músicos de sesión de la Motown como los Funk Brothers , dando de esa forma nueva vida a canciones como "Papa was a rolling stone" (The Temptations), "Uptight" (Stevie Wonder), "Standing in the shadows of love" (The four tops) o "(Love is like a) HeatWave" compuesta por el famoso equipo Holland-Dozier-Holland y que popularizó Martha and The Vandellas. Este último tema será su video presentación, donde podemos verlo feliz y satisfecho en una especie de making of de las sesiones de grabación del disco, dando protagonismo a la sección de metales en forma de big bands.

Sin lugar a duda la banda irlandesa más importante y conocida de la música. Ellos son U2, y desde comienzo de los años 80 hasta nuestros dias, han logrado mantenerse como punto de referencia donde fijarse, convirtiéndose en banda de culto para un gran número de admiradores. Sus números son envidiables: más de 190 millones de discos vendidos, 22 premios grammy, introducidos en el Rock and Roll Hall of Fame y numerosos números 1 en prácticamente todo el mundo.
Al frente la guitarra y el sonido característico de Dave Evans "The Edge", la inspiración y arrebato en las voces de Paul Hewson "Bono", la capacidad e ingenio de Adam Clayton al bajo y la visión, maestría y ritmo a la batería de Larry Mullen Jr. logrando que el rock y pop adquieran una nueva dimensión.

Mientras llegan todos estos eventos podemos recordar alguno de sus muchísimas grandes canciones. "One" bien podría ser una de ellas. Con la producción de Brian Eno -considerado por muchos el quinto miembro del grupo- brota todo un himno de temática ambigua. Bien podría hablar del dolor de un chico homosexual ante la incomprensión por parte de su padre. Quizás sobre la historia de la vida del propio Bono con su padre, a partir de la muerte de la madre de Bono, cuando éste tenía 14 años o tal vez la nostalgia y los difíciles momentos que pasaba el grupo por esa etapa. Pero no hay duda que se trata de una gran canción que sobre todo habla de las relaciones e igualdad entre seres humanos.
